Hendrick Kgosana was born in the town of Mokopane, Ga Mokaba Village in Limpopo Province. At a young age, Kgosana took a journey to Johannesburg, where most of his education was completed. He studied fine art at the Central Johannesburg College, Crown Mines Campus between 2010 and 2011. During 2013 and 2014, Hendrick furthered his studies at the Artist Proof Studio, where he developed further his knowledge of fine art. In between pursuing his talent of fine art, between 2016 and 2021, Kgosana volunteered at the Braamfontein-based Little Artists’ School, which offers art classes to previously disadvantaged and rehabilitated street children. Kgosana’s work focuses on the movement of people in South African townships, as well as village landscapes. He believes that in human beings lies a spiritual connection to God and tries to capture the movement of religion in his works: people belonging to various church groups either singing, dancing to moropa (drums) or in groups on their way to or from church.
