Nadia Raaths-Ettwein
Nadia Raaths-Ettwein (b. 1984) is a photographer currently based in Mpumalanga, South Africa. Nadia started taking photo's with a point and shoot camera from around the age 16. After school, she worked in Kodak labs, developing and printing film before deciding to study graphic design. Eventually ending up with a BSc degree in Information Science, she worked in the corporate field for many years. Mostly self taught, she realised her passion lies in photography and she left the corporate world to become a full-time artistic photographer. Her work relates to the dissociation with painful memories, trauma, rejection, femininity and her current experiences. She challenges her internal and external self through her work. It’s unsettling and intimate. It’s illusive, challenging reality to what is real and inherent. There are beginnings and endings, balance and imbalance, and the betweenness which forms a collective memory.
