Ixhayi is a Xhosa word for Trapped. Mncela weighs on the divination spirits and their voices that weigh him down. He symbolizes the trap as their voices that convey messages to their prophets to hear the silent messages and see the unseen. It is at that moment’s split second that he realizes the trap of spirituality that beckons one to adhere and submit to the call of ancestry.
