Nel Gallery | 3 Artists Exhibition

Nel Gallery | 3 Artists Exhibition

It is the time of the Investec Cape Town Art Fair with Cape Town abuzz with art lovers from all around congregated in the city. At Nel we are showcasing the work of three artists - Joachim Schönfeldt, who for the first time will show Moo moo moo, a new carving of his three-headed cows. This time slightly smaller and much more intricately carved. Much like a fine violin, it is a delicate piece that commands admiration and elicits gasps. We are showcasing this in our Church Street main display window and two of his disc carvings in the other two display windows on Long Street. Inside, on the ground floor we have new mixed-media works by Oupa Sibeko. These can best be described as renderings where drawing and collage meet. He once again draws on history and also the nautical and aquatic. Being primarily known in the field of performance, he places himself in the narrative as a protagonist in remembrance of the time the colonisers' ships circumvented our shores. These works are visceral, expressive and sharp in their critique of a dehumanising chapter in history that we will never escape. On the first floor we have Wandie Mesatywa with a video she first showed last year for Pride Afrique, it was specially commissioned for the pan-African pride event. It is titled MRRT & Courage, It deals with the artist's own personal voyage into her own identity. It finds itself somewhere between documentary and art and is an arresting piece of footage and photographs. It is deeply moving. We welcome all
