Nostalgia is powerful. It is natural, human to long for the past, particularly when we can remember our histories as better than they were.” - Roxane G
Sinenkosi Msomi’s first solo show with Latitudes entitled I Remember home work explores the different emotions that are stimulated by fragmented and vivid memories of our childhood and how they have moulded who become. Msomi has always viewed photography as a medium of expression. It has enabled him to use his emotions and personal experiences in the subject matter to create stories that present a deeper visual meaning.
These memories have the power to take us on a journey and they tend to feel like warm blankets of comfort on our miserable days. These images aim to give the viewer a clear depiction of Msomi’s nostalgic moments, moments that often linger when the path forward becomes clouded. With each photograph in this showcase, Msomi realises just how much life can be viewed as a puzzle and how each moment is very significant.
