Lindokuhle Tshabalala’s Myth Reimagines series weaves together spiritual rebirth, mythic belief and historical storytelling. Three large - painted narratives summon figures who stand between belief and legend, prophecy and doubt.
Mother Mah, Goddess of Creations is inspired by Indaba, My Children by Credo Mutwa. She is seated bearing the dignity of the Nokhubulwane. The Zulu Great mother who brings fertility, creation and wisdom. Her Herero style head - wrap roots her in African identity. A cow’s head rests on her shoulder (cattles are a wealth and a sacredness). A double-bringing earth and sky, mortality and myth. Together these works question: what is belief when holiness walks among us? What becomes of myth when divine returns?
