'Usiphataleni' The Market Money Changers

'Usiphataleni' The Market Money Changers, 2023 is a paintin from artist George Masarira's new solo exhibition Jambanja, Urban Chaos Interrupted. The work responds to the colourful personalities of informal traders and other characters who drive and inform the fascinating workings of the underground money changing operations prevalent in cities and communities across the continent where money exchanges hands daily and fortunes and global currencies are made and exchanged, or destroyed. The markets are a known features in Harare, the captial city of Zimbabwe and a country whose currency was fatally devalued following protracted politival crises. The piece is rednered in acrylics on caonvas and is available stretched on a frame.
