Levy Pooe
Levy Pooe (b. 1994) is a Johannesburg-based South African visual artist born during the country's transition to democracy. He is the recipient of the 2020 Cassirer Welz award in partnership with Strauss & Co Auctioneers, which culminated in a solo exhibition at the Bag Factory Artist Studios. Pooe works with and explores different mediums of expression ranging from painting, drawing, murals and printmaking. He is invested in telling stories and creating narratives, describing his work as a public social diary. Through figurative paintings, Pooe aims to make visible intimate and public scenes, conversations, daily rituals and routines in everyday South Africa. He recently joined the global JP Morgan Chase Art Collection, a collection by contemporary black South African artists.
