Richard ‘Specs’ Ndimande is an award-winning, multidisciplinary South African fine artist and art researcher born in Johannesburg in 1994. He completed his formal training at the University of Johannesburg, obtaining a Diploma and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in 2017. Ndimande maintains an active studio practice in Johannesburg, working across a diverse range of mediums including sculpture, drawing, painting, photography, and mixed media

Ndimande’s thought-provoking visual practice is deeply inspired by systemic social ills, historical injustices, and political realities affecting South Africa and the broader global landscape.

His rapid ascent in the contemporary art world is marked by major accolades, including winning the Cassirer Welz Award (2018), receiving the Reserve Bank Art Scholarship (2017), and winning a Kannas Award (2023).
