Zolile Phetshane

Zolile Phetshane (b. 1973) is a prominent South African artist whose work delves into complex contemporary themes such as religion, politics, consumerism, and capitalism. He holds an Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts from the University of the Witwatersrand (2006) and further honed his skills at the renowned Artist Proof Studios in Johannesburg.

Phetshane’s distinctive style masterfully combines abstract colour fields with figurative elements and symbols to explore the intricacies of his chosen subjects. He is a versatile artist, working across a range of mediums including printmaking, works on paper in pastel, and acrylic and oil on canvas.

Since 2008, he has developed a close and enduring partnership with Lizamore & Associates, leading to significant visibility and success. Through the gallery, he has participated in major art fairs like the FNB Joburg Art Fair, Investec Cape Town Art Fair, and the RMB Turbine Art Fair. He has also held several successful solo exhibitions with the gallery, including "1 is the magic number" (2016), "Simplified Complexity" (2018), and "Neon Paradise" (2020), the latter being a collaboration with artist Anton Burger.

Phetshane's work has also been exhibited at institutions like the North West University Gallery (2014) and internationally with Clifton Boulder in Europe. Highly sought after by collectors, his art is featured in numerous prominent private and public collections.
