Abel Beyene (b. 1995, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia) is an interdisciplinary visual artist living and working in Addis Ababa. He studied at the Abyssinia Art and Vocational Training Centre before continuing his education at the Teferi Mekonen School of Art between 2015 and 2018, where he developed his distinctive artistic practice. Working across painting, collage, photography, and digital media, Beyene primarily uses acrylic and oil while embracing experimentation across multiple disciplines. His practice investigates the fluid nature of human identity and its relationship to an ever-changing world, exploring themes of history, migration, diversity, and the production of knowledge. Through layered compositions and a multidisciplinary approach, Beyene creates works that reflect on the complexities of contemporary society, inviting viewers to consider the intersections of personal experience, collective memory, and global transformation.
