Alexa Markantonatos is a Johannesburg-based artists, working as a tattoo artist, printmaker and painter. Their studio practice inspects geopolitics embedded in the semiotics of maps through an understanding of landscape ideology. Alexa is a graduate of the University of Johannesburg, having completed their Bachelor's degree in Visual Art in 2022 and subsequently pursing their Honours degree part-time in the same field during 2023. Alongside their Honours studies, they undertook a tattoo apprenticeship, successfully completing both in 2024.

As of early 2025, Alexa is actively working as a tattoo artist through a studio based in the Johannesburg suburb of Linden, while continuing to develop their independent studio practice exploring cartographic themes.
