Almogera Abdelbagi
Sudan

Almogera Abdelbagi (also known as Almogera Abdalbagea, b. 1994, Al-Manaqil) is a highly compelling contemporary Sudanese visual artist, painter, and researcher whose practice is deeply rooted in the socio-political realities of postcolonial East Africa. Abdelbagi formalised his visual vocabulary at the Sudan University of Science and Technology (SUST), earning both an Illustration Design Diploma and a Bachelor’s in Painting from the prestigious College of Fine and Applied Arts. His research-heavy studio practice operates as a powerful mechanism for peaceful dialogue, investigating how national identity is forged through the historical trauma of colonisation and how it manifests in the contemporary Sudanese landscape.

Working fluidly across mixed media collage, thick oil texturing, and expressive abstraction, Abdelbagi focuses intensely on topics of ethnic diversity and group dynamics. Driven by a mission to democratise contemporary fine art, he frequently paints on unconventional, local organic surfaces—such as clay, palm leaves, raw wood, and leather—ensuring his imagery resonates across diverse socio-economic communities. Deeply committed to grassroots art development, he has driven multiple creative workshops partnered with UNESCO and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), using visual expression to educate communities on critical healthcare issues.
