Ammar Abdullah (also known as Mory) is an acclaimed Sudanese contemporary documentary photographer, textile merchant, and visual storyteller born in Wad Madani, Sudan. Moving fluidly between image and memory, his evocative practice is deeply inspired by his dreams, personal identity, family histories, and the shifting social realities of postcolonial East Africa. For Abdullah, photography operates as a critical vehicle for archiving collective memory and tracing the intimate internal architecture of family life.
His sophisticated, black-and-white visual language has captured massive regional and international acclaim. He was named the winner of the East Africa Photography Award (Singles Category) by the Uganda Press Photo Award (UPPA) in 2022. His international profile expanded significantly through his participation in the celebrated group exhibition Fragments of Home at The People's Forum in New York (2024), driven alongside mentorship programmes with the Through the Lens Collective and Sudan Visuals.
