Andrew Murray

South Africa

Andrew Murray is a South African artist based in Johannesburg. Trained at the Johannesburg Art Foundation under Sophia Ainsley and at the Lorenzo de’ Medici School of Art in Florence, he has sustained a parallel artistic practice across four decades whilst
creating a major South African construction company. His work has moved through classical figuration, portraiture and still life, into mixed-media works on paper, found-object sculpture and stop-motion animation, and most recently, large-format abstract painting in acrylic. His paintings are held in private collections in South Africa and internationally, and he has exhibited at the Everard Read Gallery (Johannesburg) on multiple occasions, as well as in Florence, Barcelona and Buenos Aires. Now retired from construction, he is returning to an active studio practice.
