Anita van Zyl
Anita van Zyl is an accomplished South African visual artist, art educator, and printmaker whose evocative studio practice is deeply informed by her cross-continental experiences. After spending seven years in the United Kingdom teaching, mentoring, and tutoring both established artists and passionate beginners who were just beginning to discover their artistic paths, she has returned to her roots in South Africa. She currently lives, creates, and works in the historic, picturesque village of Napier, nestled within the landscape of the Southern Cape.
Now settled on a small 18-hectare farm, Van Zyl draws direct, profound inspiration from the pristine natural environment and the vast, healing quiet of the rural countryside. Her multi-disciplinary practice—incorporating mixed media painting, fine drawing, and print processes—operates as a quiet dialogue with the earth, reflecting the raw textures, organic contours, and shifting light of the Cape landscape. Having spent nearly a decade cultivating the creative potential of others, her current work marks a deeply personal return to her own canvas. Through a delicate and intuitive handling of color and form, her expanding portfolio captures a serene sense of belonging, transforming the rhythms of farm life into spaces for deep visual and existential contemplation.
