Boemo Lunga (b. 1996) is a highly promising contemporary multidisciplinary visual artist born and raised in Mmadinare, located in the Central District of Botswana. Currently based in the capital city of Gaborone, Lunga’s professional artistic journey began somewhat unexpectedly in 2016 at Mmadinare Senior School, where he discovered his formal talent after being challenged to sketch his own portrait to qualify for an art class. Following his secondary education, he refined his visual language under the direct mentorship of established visual artist Ronald Kegomoditswe, choosing to pursue art full-time.

As an experimental practitioner, Lunga works with an unconventional mix of mediums—including charcoal, oil paint, newsprint, and organic coffee washes. He uses these materials to interrogate the subtle psychological and socio-economic textures of ordinary everyday life in modern Setswana society. His studio practice balances microscopic attention to detail with powerful abstract representation, charging deep emotions and inspiring resilient hope within his audience.
