Boyd Bishonga
Zambia

Bishonga is a prolific Zambian artist who lives and breathes through his work - sleeping, eating and painting in his small studio in Lusaka, Zambia. A prominent figure in the Zambian art scene, who’s expressive painting style has been compared to Jean-Michel Basquiat.

His work explores the overcoming of fears, addictions and the fight for human rights. The expression of these complex concepts is done with a contrasting vibrancy. Boyd’s ability to be blunt both on and off the canvas allows his work to take its own direction, pushing beyond the boundaries of conventional imagery.

Exhibitions include Bringing Dead Objects to Life, Solo show, Henry Tayali Gallery, Lusaka (2021); Between Italie and Zambia, Group show, Lusaka National Museum, Lusaka (2021); African Inspirations, Group show, Henry Tayali Gallery, Lusaka (2020); Bonanza, Group show, Henry Tayali Gallery, Lusaka (2019); Showtime, Group show, Henry Tayali Gallery, Lusaka (2019). Boyd made his London debut in November 2025 with his first open studio invitation event and later had his solo show in London June 2026.
