Giancarlo Diablo Santana is a prominent self-taught interdisciplinary contemporary artist and independent curator born, raised, and based in the capital city of Gaborone, Botswana. His deeply introspective studio practice is centered around navigating personal psychological states, atheism, and deep ancestral grief, mapping these private emotions against universal ideas about the human experience. Following the passing of his uncle, he legally adopted the moniker "Diablo Santana" as an act of personal mythmaking to permanently bind his creative lineage to familial legacy. Moving fluidly across photography, painting, drawing, video installation, collage, and experimental music production, his large-scale works intentionally blur the boundary between stark representation and complete abstraction.
