Faustina Abah

Nigeria

Faustina Abah (b. 2001, Nsukka, Nigeria) is a contemporary artist whose practice transforms discarded jute bags gathered from local markets into sculptural forms. Drawing from her early observations of her mother and other traders using, repairing, and reusing jute bags, Abah approaches jute as a material that carries histories of labour, memory, and lived experience.

Through stitching, layering, binding, and embroidery techniques she developed while studying Fashion at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Abah repairs and transforms the material while preserving traces of its previous use. Her forms emerge from her subconscious and from the possibilities suggested by the material itself, allowing the history embedded within each jute bag to inform its transformation into new forms.

Faustina has participated in exhibitions such as Uzo Ije (2023) and +234 Artfair (2026) and is a past resident artsit of Ulo Nka Artspace.
