Kganya Malatjie (b. 2001) is a South African visual artist currently completing their Honours degree in Visual Art at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). They graduated with an undergraduate degree in Visual Art from the University of Johannesburg in 2026.
Working at the intersection of drawing and experimental mark-making, their practice is rooted in asemic writing; an abstract, script-like form that exists beyond the boundaries of language and legibility.
Through asemic writing, Kganya explores the shifting nature of communication. Their work asks:
what remains when language is stripped of meaning; what gestures, rhythms and traces does
the body leave behind? Her drawings become an intimate record of thought and feeling,
hovering between the readable and the unknowable.
