Kristina Nichol

South Africa

Kristina Nichol (b. in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe 1997, and mostly growing up in Pretoria, South Africa) is a multidisciplinary textile artist. Focusing on ideas that surround identity and what ‘home’ really means is a reoccurrence in their work. Her childhood was mostly spent being alone.

Experiencing depression, anxiety and mania further created a disconnect from self and others. She often would spend time with her grandmother and mother. With her fondest memories being in the garden with her grandmother and watching her mom paint and sew. The true artist’s and creators in her eyes and world.

Pursuing her desires to create again in her late 20’s felt like a return ‘home’ in many ways for Kristina. Her art practice serves as a love letter and a form of remembering and connection to her late mother, who passed away when Kristina was 21. She also continues to pursue a BA in Creative Writing through UNISA. Finding ways to connect the threads of the stories she wishes to tell and explore.
