Louis Ifeanyi Igwegbe

Nigeria

Louis Ifeanyi Igwegbe (b. 1998, Umulewe, Imo State, Nigeria) is an emerging contemporary artist whose practice spans wood carving and painting. He was introduced to art at an early age through his father, an artist, and began creating biblical murals for local Catholic parishes as a teenager. Igwegbe studied Fine and Applied Arts at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, graduating with second class upper division as Best Graduating Student and Best Sculptor in 2022, alongside receiving several academic awards.

Working primarily through carving and painting, Igwegbe explores the unconscious mind. His experimental “paintaglio” process combines painting with wood carving and burning, transforming surfaces into emotional topographies.

Igwegbe has participated in group exhibitions including Ntachl Obi, Institute of African Studies Museum, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (2024); Art is Everywhere, Bona Art Gallery, Enugu (2024); LIMCAF, Enugu (2024, 2025, 2026); and Ihe Ncheta, Dominican University, Illinois, Chicago, USA (2025). He completed industrial training in wood carving at Tuff Studio, Enugu (2020), interned at the El Anatsui Studio, Nsukka (2025), where he gained experience in both small- and large-scale production and professional studio practice. In 2026, He lives and works in Nsukka, Nigeria.
