Lwando Hlazo
South Africa

Lwando Hlazo (b. 1994), widely known in creative spaces simply as “Hlazo,” is a Tsolo-born contemporary visual artist and muralist whose practice is characterized by a vibrant, community-driven approach. Deeply rooted in the townships and rural landscapes of the Eastern Cape, his journey is fueled by a desire to uplift and engage the public through visual storytelling. Hlazo holds a BTech degree in Fine Arts from Walter Sisulu University (WSU), an academic foundation that helped him channel post-apartheid socio-economic realities into powerful means of expression. Beyond public walls, his canvas and pencil work—most notably his highly anticipated series Find My Way—utilizes acrylics and intricate charcoal drawings to document daily life, architecture, and heritage within Xhosa communities.
