Mbulelo Terrence Lokoto (b. 2000) is a highly compelling Cape Town-based contemporary South African visual artist born in East London, Eastern Cape. Lokoto formalised his visual vocabulary at the Ruth Prowse School of Art, where he graduated with a Diploma in Fine Art specialising in painting. Though his passion for the arts sparked in early childhood, limited regional resources initially forced him to abandon the craft. Nearly two decades later, he returned to drawing and painting as a crucial therapeutic coping mechanism to navigate severe depression—an intimate act of healing that continues to infuse his canvases with raw psychological depth.
