Nazeer Jappie (b. 1998, Cape Town) is a graduate of the Cape Town Creative Academy. His multidisciplinary practice is focused on performance, sculpture and painting.

Jappie’s works are predominantly self-portraits. His obsession with storytelling allows the artist to weave into different narratives and frame himself accordingly. Drawing from the repetitive performativity of everyday life, the artist looks for ways to bring attention to the absurdity of routine by intensifying its intrinsically surreal characteristics.

Artist statement:

“I aim to walk the line between the mundane and the absurd. In a world that is overwhelmed with excess, it is the nothingness that fascinates me. The ghosts of those moments that are not witnessed are therefore as tangible as any other unspoken secret. The spaces in which nothing happens, the imagined and the fabricated, the realm of dreams. These are the non-moments I wish to reveal.”
