Queila Fernandes is a self-taught photographer based in Mindelo, on the island of São Vicente. Working across the realms of portraiture, memory, identity and everyday life, her practice is rooted in an intimate focus on people, place and the emotional textures of the Cape Verdean experience.
Fernandes has exhibited in Cape Verde, France and Angola, including at the Catchupa Factory residency, the Afrika Sovoies festival and the IX Biennial of Young Creators of the CPLP. In 2024, she was selected for the Praia–Lisbon Artistic Photography Residency.
She has developed through a close relationship with the archipelago, its domestic spaces, gestures, landscapes and ways of passing on traditions.
