Thembelihle Ngesi (b. 1991) is an East London-based fine visual artist whose deeply intuitive practice positions art as an essential spiritual sanctuary. Born in the small rural village of Xhana along the Chalumna River in the Eastern Cape, Ngesi turned to the natural world early in life to navigate childhood health challenges and feelings of isolation. For Ngesi, the canvas operates not merely as a creative outlet, but as a literal home—a transcendental realm where they can experience true solace, vulnerability, and complete freedom from worldly burdens.

At the core of Ngesi’s creative evolution is a dedicated practice of Hatha yoga and an obsession with spiritual refinement, which they credit with transforming their mental state and unlocking their creative voice. The pristine geography of the Eastern Cape serves as a powerful wellspring of inspiration, infusing their abstract and figurative paintings with the innate beauty, tranquility, and rhythmic harmony found in the environment
