Thuto Dumpworks is a self-taught artist from Benoni, Ekurhuleni, creating large-scale works from upcycled aluminum. Through Dumpworks, he collects waste material from dumps and transforms it into art that speaks to community, sustainability, and personal growth.
His process is both collection and creation. Over 49 days, Thuto collected thousands of aluminum pull rings to create "From Pawn 2 QUEEN" - a 149cm x 102cm portrait that reclaims discarded materials as symbols of value and identity.
Guided by the motto "built from these dumps," Thuto’s work challenges how we see waste, wealth, and where royalty comes from. He aims to exhibit locally and nationally, and to use art as a tool for environmental awareness and youth inspiration in Ekurhuleni.
