Zovuyo Pendu
South Africa

Zovuyo Pendu (b. 2003) explores the psychological negotiations that occur within the self. Using the body as both subject and language, she examines emotional conundrums and ongoing questions through fractured moments of despair, love, morality, resistance, reverence, and contradiction.
Her practice positions the body as a site of evidence, reflection, and study, communicating experiences that can be difficult to articulate through words. Pendu’s personal faith becomes a form of translation, at times anchored in the Bible, as she navigates internal beliefs, identity, and the complexities of how faith is experienced, embodied, questioned, and represented within the world around her.
Through her practice, she reflects on the relationship between inner experience and external perception, creating space for vulnerability, contemplation, and self-examination.
