Desire Aine
Kampala, Uganda
Desire Aine is a Ugandan curator and cultural practitioner based in Kampala. Her practice explores the intersections of contemporary art, material culture, care, labour, and sustainability, with particular attention to women’s labour, inherited knowledge, and the ways cultural practices hold memory and function as infrastructures of care.
Aine is a Curatorial Assistant at Njabala Foundation, where she contributes to exhibition research and development, artist coordination, public programming, and the practical processes of exhibition-making. Her recent curatorial work includes the Njabala Pop-Up Exhibition (2025), the Karibu Exhibition (2026), and the Annual Njabala Exhibition (ANE 2026).
Alongside her institutional practice, Aine develops independent research and cultural projects through SaAsi Society, exploring non-extractive approaches to cultural production and the social and material conditions that shape artistic practice. Her work brings together curatorial research, writing, and operational experience to develop contextually grounded and relational approaches to exhibition-making.
