South African visual artist whose conceptual works across painting, digital art, and drawing explore the cadences of African identity today. Holding a BA (Hons) in Information Design from the University of Pretoria, he built a career in traditional design, including as Art Director at Joe Public, South Africa's leading advertising agency, before leaving to pursue visual art full time. His work reflects on society and being through the lenses of history, culture, and social context — examining how we grow as people by incorporating nature into our sense of self. At the heart of his practice is a conviction that nature is not peripheral to human identity, but integral to it. Modimola has exhibited at the Joburg Art Fair, African Futurism Unbound, and Zeitz MOCAA; completed residencies in Zimbabwe, the United States, and South Africa; and delivered public art commissions for American Express, Fred Hutch Cancer Center, and Sanlam, including community regeneration murals in Eldorado Park for Subcity. Modimola was born and raised in Pretoria and lives in Johannesburg, South Africa.
