Hanien Conradie
Cape Town, Western Cape , ZA
Hanien Conradie is a South African artist whose paintings grow directly out of her relationship with the natural world. She works with natural pigments and materials gathered from specific places — including earth, clay, ochre, water, burnt plant material and other organic matter — allowing the character and history of each material to become part of the work.
Her paintings explore our sense of connection to land and water, and the ways in which places hold memory, story and meaning. Rather than simply depicting landscapes, Conradie brings the landscape itself into the painting, creating works that are tactile, elemental and deeply connected to place.
Her work invites us to slow down and pay attention to the living world around us — to the colours of the earth, the movement of water, and the quiet relationships between people and place.
