Mulanga Mbedzi is a South African photographer, writer, and multidisciplinary artist whose work explores urban life and the relationship between people and place. Holding degrees in Law and Political Sciences, her practice is informed by an enduring interest in how power, history, and inequality shape both human experience and the environments in which it unfolds.

Central to her practice is an understanding of land as more than a physical resource or backdrop to human activity. She is interested in the land as a living presence that carries memory, history, and the traces of violence and transformation. In Johannesburg, a city founded through mining and extraction, her work considers how the exploitation of both people and land continues to shape contemporary urban life, and how these histories remain embedded within the landscape.
