Simone Verfaille

Simone Verfaille (b. 1995, Cape Town, South Africa) is a visual artist whose practice explores the interplay between memory, transformation, and self through layers of abstraction. Her work, grounded in abstract expressionism, is characterised by fluid brushstrokes, rich textures, and dynamic compositions.
After completing her BA(Hons) in Fine Art at Stellenbosch University in 2018, Simone pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing in 2019. She worked in the marketing industry for several years, gaining insight into visual storytelling and creative communication; skills that now enrich her art practice. In 2023, she returned to her art practice with a renewed passion and perspective.
For Simone, art is a living, intuitive process centered on experimentation and self-discovery. Focusing less on outcome and more on meaning, fulfilment, and resilience in the making process. She blends painting and textile-based abstraction to explore her inner landscapes.
In 2023, she completed a solo residency in South West France, which further expanded her visual vocabulary and direction. In 2024, she was named one of ten winners of the WORLDART10 competition, and her recent body of work, both painting and textile-based abstraction, has been exhibited in exhibitions across Cape Town.
She currently lives and works in Cape Town.
