The Melrose Gallery
Johannesburg, ZA
Founded in 2016 and located in Johannesburg's Melrose Arch precinct, The Melrose Gallery is a contemporary art gallery representing a curated stable of established and emerging African artists. The gallery is the global representative of Dr Esther Mahlangu, the internationally celebrated Ndebele artist, and works closely with collectors, institutions and corporates to place her work and that of its wider stable in significant collections worldwide.
The gallery's focus is contemporary, investment-grade African art. Its team of specialist art consultants advises private and corporate collectors on acquisition, portfolio building and the long-term value of contemporary African art, offering guidance across painting, sculpture, photography and mixed media.
The Melrose Gallery works alongside its sister gallery, Art of Contemporary Africa (AOCA), located within the Minnesota Street Project in San Francisco. Together the two galleries provide a bridge between South Africa and the United States, presenting exhibitions, art fair participation and collector programmes that bring African artists to an international audience.
Located in the heart of one of Johannesburg's premier lifestyle and business precincts, The Melrose Gallery is open to the public and welcomes collectors, curators and enthusiasts to engage with its programme of exhibitions and events throughout the year.
