In the 35th year of its existence, the Bag Factory presents a solo exhibition featuring the cofounder and resident artist, Kagiso Patrick Mautloa, curated by Ntshadi Mofokeng. His expansive artistic practice and convivial nature are embedded in the very fabric of this community. Having been a resident of Johannesburg from infancy, he has borne witness to every iteration of its physical, social and clamorous personality over the past seven decades. His considered engagement with the city manifests across drawings, layered paintings, multimedia collages, and his iconic sculptures. In his own words, “I find inspiration from the inner city of Johannesburg where found objects are collected both consciously and unconsciously. In the studio, they are given new life through the transformative process of art-making.”
