Absent

Growing up in the city of Johannesburg, one inevitably gets to interact with people from all walks of life with different backgrounds, and at times learn about different languages, customs and traditions. I have used that experience to create work which explores, embraces and celebrates our heritage and different ethnicities. I use patterns, symbols and objects that are associated with different ethnic groups by combining and layering them to create shapes that are a metaphor for new landscapes, which are free from tribalism and cultural constraints. I use bold, graphic and colourful elements to achieve the details which are an essence/core of my artworks. The patterns do not dominate each other, suggesting solidarity.
