Black Magic: The tension between holding on and letting go

An older work by the artist that formed part of the body of work entitled 'limp' at SMITH Gallery, March 2017. The title, 'black Magic', references the childhood technique of working with oil pastel and black wax crayon and scratching at the layers. It marks the beginning of a deeper engagement with wax as a prime material in her art. Materials include natural beeswax, black oxide, oil pastel, pencil crayon, oil paint and varnish.
