The artwork "Energy" explores the ritual and spiritual practices within the Xhosa culture. In Xhosa culture, traditional healers, known as "isangomas" or "inyangas," hold a significant role. These healers are highly respected individuals who possess specialised knowledge and skills in healing, divination, and spiritual guidance. They have a strong connection with their ancestors and the spiritual realm, acting as intermediaries between the living and the spiritual world.

Traditional healers employ various methods, such as herbal remedies, rituals, prayers, and divination techniques, to diagnose and treat illnesses. Sineyile specifically references the use of "impepho," an indigenous African plant, which is dried and burnt to communicate with one's ancestors and is also used for medicinal purposes.

Within the Xhosa community, traditional healers are esteemed and trusted members. They are regarded as sources of wisdom, knowledge, and spiritual guidance. Their role extends beyond healing and encompasses the preservation of cultural traditions, conflict resolution, and support during significant life events like births, marriages, and funerals.

These practices are deeply rooted in cultural beliefs and may differ from Western medical approaches. However, Sineyile emphasises the value of integrating both traditional healing and modern medical methods, recognising the complementary holistic nature of these systems.
