Duality underpins Magoso’s entire practice as he mediatates on how opposing yet interconnected systems shape his identity. Growing up between Kokstad, Umzimkhulu and KwaNgcolosi within a Xhosa and Zulu family, he became interested in spaces where difference and overlap coexist. This extends into language, belief, memory and family as he speaks both isiXhosa and isiZulu, he navigates religious upbringing alongside traditional and spiritual practices, and experiences the world as a twin.
