Through her art, Yasmine delves deeply into her cultural and feminine spirituality. As part of this exploration, she created the Kqmouja series. Kqmouja combines two words in Darija, the Moroccan dialect: khamja (rotten) and qmoucha (scratched). The word khamja is sometimes used to describe women who do not conform to the expectations of being a good housewife. It also reflects the restrictive 3aib/hchouma culture (translated as "disgrace" or "shame") that women and girls in North Africa and the diaspora experience.Qmoucha refers to both the technique she used to create the piece and the emotional toll this culture imposes. As an intersectional feminist she rejects the Eurocentric perspective that such mentalities are inherently rooted in Islamic culture or that African societies are incapable of progress. Instead, Yasmine interprets this tendency as a consequence of colonial oppression and the fear of cultural alienation.
The art piece is printed on Hahnem Photo Matt Fibre 200 gsm (matt, smooth) and will be individualized by the artist with oil pastels. Price in Eur 140€
