This image was taken at Tarkwa Bay, the only public beach left in Lagos that’s protected and cared for by a community. It captures three children from the island community playing fearlessly by the waterfront. The photograph is ethereal and cinematic, seeming more like a film still than a photograph. Perhaps, this is because the image brilliantly utilises movement. The children are frozen in motion; one rides a bicycle and the others chase after the rider. ‘Let the Child in You Come Out to Play’ exudes warmth in the colouring, and moves the viewer the way a bittersweet film ending would. Imagine this: the children racing across the beachfront, heartfelt, orchestral music playing in the background, the film ends with this still, the credits roll.
