Pay Me What You Owe Me depicts a woman seated on the front steps of a home which is vaguely suggested in background, facing the right of the painting. Her face is almost frontal, gazing directly towards the observer. The woman is topless with only African neck rings, red sting on each of her wrist and pants. Pay Me What You Owe Me explores the question of wealth and the distribution of equity with regards to the black female, displacement, power and a sense of being. This work is inspired by the recent event of black women speaking up about being marginalized, under paid, undervalued and disfranchised in their respected fields.
