The Martyrdom of Nongqawuse

This piece is part of my Mythologies of Time body of work which debuted in my solo at Oliewenhuis Art Museum. The work explores the idea of an alternative history of the prophetess Nongqawuse wherein she is martyred for her prophesy which led to the cattle killings. The work draws on Christian iconography and local stories with influence from AI image generators such as Mid-Journey to explore themes of change, progress, and our place within stories.
