This piece began with a man named Karl as the central figure. As the composition evolved during the act of painting, I drew reference from the work of Ilya Repin, particularly the struggle conveyed in his figures in The Barge Haulers. The struggle resonated with the figure of Karl. The title "Moses" emerged from the concept of struggle and faith—the idea that if we aim at something and begin the process, we may eventually end up where we wish to be, even if we don't quite see it ourselves.
