ANDILE MAFU (1971 - ) Andile Mafu was born and still lives in Nyanga, Cape Town, one of the oldest townships in South Africa. His love of art started at a young age and he joined a local art centre in Sub A already. Although he has no formal training, he did work as part of the Community Arts Project (CAP) from 1989 until it’s closure in 2008. CAP was a community arts centre that provided accommodation, facilities and training to aspiring artists. Working mainly in oil and acrylic, Andile, uses an expressionistic style to translate his everyday surroundings to canvas, thereby giving the viewer a glimpse into the everyday business of the people living in his community. Through his art, Andile hopes to inspire people to change their circumstances for the better.
