Tracy Payne (b.1965) lives and works in Cape Town, South Africa. She graduated from the Michaelis School of Fine Art at the University of Cape Town in 1987. Since graduating Payne has produced work form a number of studios in Cape Town, as well as in Johannesburg and abroad. Conducting her own residensies has had a great influence on her work; most especially Berlin in 1988, Barcelona in 1989, New York 1995, Tokyo 2002 and Dharamkot and Khajuraho, India in 2012. Presently Payne is completing her latest body of work, Fragile Nature, in preparation for her 9th solo exhibition. Solo exhibitions include: Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, 2013 and Muse, 2011, both held at Barnard Gallery, CT. Awaken, 2008, Kizo Art Gallery, KZN. Sacred Yang, 2007 and Sacred Yin, 2005, both held at Michael Stevenson, CT. Post Tokyo, 2004, Irma Stern Museum and Flashback, 2001 at Joao Ferreira Gallery, CT. Her debut solo exhibition Hush Hush: A Love Story, was held in her studio loft apartment in the Bo-Kaap, CT, in 1998.
