Kelebogile Marope
Kelebogile Tshegofatso Marope was born in Ramotswa, Botswana in 1985. After a Bachelor
of Fine Art degree in 2009, in which she majored in sculpture, Marope went on to complete a
Master of Fine Art in 2013 at Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa. She works
predominantly in the medium of sculpture, using the found object, and more recently two-
dimensional drawings and prints. Her work engages with issues of nostalgia, familiarity,
everyday life, and the implications of cleansing rituals in the domestic space. She explores
familiar household objects and reveals in practice how these ordinary objects are bound up
with one’s own history, experiences, and ideals. What interests her with the domestic object is
what is usually hidden behind over familiarity and mundanity. She has been part of group
shows held in Grahamstown, South Africa and Gaborone, Botswana. She lives in Gaborone,
Botswana.
