Foibe Amundaba
Foibe Amundaba (b. 1981) is an
Angolan-born Namibian painter.
Educated in northern Namibia, Amundaba
completed her studies at the John Muafangejo
Art Centre (JMAC) in Windhoek in 2005 with a first solo exhibition "A Line of Stories" at the Franco Namibian
Cultural Centre in Windhoek in 2012.
Her abstract pieces are inspired by African
women and the traditional elements in a modern
African society. She also draws on the patterns
found in nature and the African landscape in
particular. The artworks speak of the different environments of individual women who appear to be struggling under heavily controlled conditions which are represented by the lines that dominate the
space. It is representation of the way women are
heavily guarded by patriarchal dominance.
Amundaba has exhibited alongside others in
Namibia, South Africa and Europe and with the NJE Collective at both the Joburg Art Fair and Investec Cape Town Art Fair.
